ND Snowmobile Law
    • Any one 12 and older to legally ride a snowmobile on public lands is required to have either a     drivers' license or a snowmobile safety certification card.

    • The North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department is in charge of offering the snowmobile     safety certification course.

 

• Registration:
     • A snowmobile driven on public lands is required to be registered.

     • Snowmobiles are registered by the ND Department of Transportation (DOT)

     • Registration fee is $40 paid every 2 years. $5 goes to the Department of Transportation(DOT)      and $35 goes into the ND state snowmobile fund. The fine for not registering your snowmobile      while on public lands is $50 each time you get caught!

 

• Insurance
     • Liability insurance is required for anyone driving a snowmobile on lands owned, leased or      managed by the North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department including the state trail      system.


• Out of State Snowmobiles
     • Out of state snowmobiles being driven on ND snowmobile trails are required to purchase the      “Out-of-State Public Trails and Lands Access” permit for a cost of $15 per year.

     • For exact wording, reference your North Dakota Century Code.
     • State Snowmobile trails are open from Dec. 1st thru April 1st depending on snow conditions      (a minimum groomed base of 4 inches.)
