Welcome to the Recreation Education Testing System

Recreation Education is a key component to any safe and successful outing. The North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to offer this online recreation education certification testing system to improve access to needed safety and education information. Currently both OHV and Snowmobile Safety Certification Courses are offered. Effective March 1st, 2009, there is a $20 fee to take the certification course, but the training materials can be viewed at no charge.

Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Safety Certification

North Dakota law requires youth ages 12 to 16, who do not have a valid driver's license or permit, to take a safety certification course in order to legally operate OHVs on land other than their parents. In order to be certified, you must—

  • Be at least 12 years of age without a valid driver's license, permit or OHV Safety Certification
  • Successfully complete an online or classroom safety exam.

In order to pass the online certification test, the student must read and understand the current ND Laws relating to the use of OHV which can be found in the 2007-2009 OHV Safety & Operations Guidelines Book. The student must also view OHV Safety Certification Course Training Materials. It is very important that you read both the guideline book and training materials as test questions will come from both.
